Charity One Ball - Friday July 30th
Open to All
The Charity One Ball is open to all our members and is a light-hearted, all-inclusive event where you are likely to play 5 different opponents with the benefit of bisques (extra turns) to reflect your handicap.
Results do not go on your handicap card. Is there a prize? Probably a bottle of wine or the equivalent for the winner - so nothing that needs to clutter your home for long!
This year we are supporting The British Heart Foundation and you are asked to make a donation to enter the tournament (a suggested donation of £5 would be reasonable). Julie Sorrell will receive this on the day and will take your details if you are able to gift aid it. Players should wear white with a hint of red (think ribbon/scarf) to represent the charity. Our donations join those from other croquet clubs across the country for The British Heart Foundation.
One Ball is an accepted variation of croquet, played as singles with only one ball each. The course is 12 hoops plus the peg making 13 points (not the best of 13). Key skills are the accuracy to get in front of the hoop and the hoop run itself. Roqueting is allowed; the game is played to Association Laws.
Some tuition in the game will be offered to Golf Croquet players in a club session.
To enter please submit your name to firstname.lastname@example.org or add your name to the list outside hut 3 by Tuesday 27th July.
Drinks will be available from the hut but bring a packed lunch.
Please arrive at 9.45 for a 10am start.
With any queries please phone me (but we are away for a few days) or Philip Harris.
Welcome to Sidmouth Croquet Club
Croquet started in late 1900 with the first open tournament in 1908. 120 years later the club has four full-sized, first class lawns maintained by our excellent groundsmen Colin Whitehall and Toby Seldon. We host International, national and local tournaments as well regular club play. Since 2019 one or two lawns are open during the winter months.
We share the iconic thatched clubhouse with cricket and tennis members, enjoying a fully equipped bar and restaurant. It is used for club socials, dinners, talks, croquet teas and a general assembly area.
Many events & activities are staged at the club throughout the year. In the winter months whist, bridge and table tennis are available.
All this for just £178 pa [2021-22] and no lawn fees.
Visitors' Lawn Fees £5 10am - 1pm & 1pm -5pm
