Sidmouth Croquet Club Transforms Plot of Land

Sidmouth Herald published 17 September 2009

Green-fingered Sidmouth Croquet Club members are celebrating after completing a two-year project which has transformed an overgrown piece of land. It was first decided to tidy up the 65-metre long plot which stretches across the club's boundary fence in 2007.

Operations were organised by Cliff and Rita Field, who are both keen gardeners, and more than 50 bags worth of bushes and weeds were cleared from the site by 12 club members.

A smaller working party was then formed to undertake the planting and maintenance.

The club met the cost of plants and fertilisers but in addition many plants were donated.

Neil Gamble, chairman of Sidmouth Cricket, Croquet, Tennis and Hockey Club, held a 'thank you' celebration for members of the working party at the Club Pavilion on Sunday.

He also congratulated the group for winning a Sidmouth in Bloom Gold Award for the second year running.
