Sidmouth's Over Ninety Members Still Playing

ree

Roy Hubbard had the idea of an Over Nineties Tournament and sourced a trophy which he then had engraved with the statement ' Ninety but not Pegged Out'. (Pegging out, for those of you not in the know, is a way of finishing certain games of croquet by hitting the central peg with your ball).

A block tournament was set up with each of them playing singles against each other.

As you would expect, competition was fierce but friendly and some spectacular shots were played.  All the players had their moments, the games were close and the eventual winner was Michael Hide. The trophy was presented to him by the Croquet Chair. Eschewing the bar, the nonagenarians all returned home for a restorative cup of tea.  They plan to repeat their tournament next year.  We wish them well.
