Temple Wins CA Silver Merit Award

The Budleigh Salterton May Tournament took place over the first week of the month. Sidmouth's Graham Harford once again put up a tremendous performance by winning all his games and thereby retaining the JK Brown Memorial Challenge Cup.

A total of nine Sidmouth players took part in a variety of play formats with notable performances being given by David and Nancy Temple, who reached the semi-final stages of the Knockout doubles and with David also reaching the semi-final of the singles. To top off a memorable week, David managed to gain a Croquet Association Silver Award by winning a game whilst making a 12-hoop break without the use of bisques.

First Intermediate Match of the Season

Back on home ground, the first Intermediate League game of the season was played last Sunday with Sidmouth being host to Nailsea. The team of Graeme Pryor, Peter Miller, Ian Friedlander and Mike Taylor battled hard but, eventually, had to concede victory to the visitors by four games to three. The doubles pairing of Graeme and Ian pulled off the closest of wins +1 with Graeme also going on to win his singles match +6. Both Peter and Ian managed a win and a loss, but, unfortunately, Mike was on the losing end of two close matches -5 and -3. However, defeat was made more palatable by the good weather, good company and a good cream tea!
