Sidmouth Croquet Club lost to a strong team from Cornwall in a South West Federation match at home on May 22. Sue Rogers and Richard Mills won a doubles game in the morning (+10) but Cornwall were victorious in the four single handicap games by +3, +5, +9 and +11.
Inner Wheel Visit
Nineteen ladies of the Otter Vale Inner Wheel visited the club for a croquet taster on a warm sunny evening recently. They were divided into teams and played golf croquet under the guidance of six club members. There was much chatter and hilarity and all showed great enthusiasm and steely determination to win. Everyone seemed to have enjoyed the experience to the extent that they were reluctant to leave the lawns, even though the bar was open and a meal awaited them, provided by Jill, the club caterer. We look forward to a return visit. It is an opportunity for the club to show what a fun game croquet can be and, who knows, it may gain some new members.
