Nelson Lands Charity One Ball at Sidmouth

Sidmouth Herald published 25 April 2013

Peter Nelson won the Charity One Ball, just edging out Pamela Bowra, writes Colin Walls.

They were actually all level after five games, but Peter won on the who-beat-who rule.

This croquet format is very fast-moving and interactive, with games time-limited to forty minutes.

Each player uses only one ball themselves, but can still take croquet from their opponent.

The better players manage to make two-ball breaks, which is a bit of an eye-opener for the less experienced players who can hardly believe such a thing is possible.

The event raised £175 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Because we raised over one-hundred pounds we are entitled to send two representatives to the final, but as neither Peter nor Pamela is available, Sidmouth will be represented in Winchester on May 12, by Philip Harris.

The weather was not kind to us with players needing to wrap up well! This made the warming soup provided for lunch all the more welcome.
