Sidmouth’s Advanced League team of Peter Hills, David Temple and Richard Wood travelled to Nailsea for their last match of the season where they were ion the wrong end of a 3-2 score line, writes Mike Taylor.
As in all the team’s matches this year, they were not intimidated despite finding themselves up against higher ranked opposition.
The Nailsea team included Ryan Cabble, winner of the Sidmouth Open Golf Croquet Tournament earlier this year, making a rare appearance as an Association player. In the morning, Peter and David struggled to find their form in the doubles and were eventually beaten, while Richard ground out a win in the singles.
There were mixed fortunes in the afternoon singles. Peter was unlucky enough come up against Ryan in superb form. Meanwhile, David and Richard had to-and-fro games with Richard winning and David losing.
Sidmouth has had a tough season, but the team has not been out of its depth and even managed an excellent win at Bristol earlier in the season.
All involved have had some enjoyable games and benefited from the experience of competing against strong opposition.
Richard Wood was the Sidmouth representative at the Parkstone August Bank Holiday Class weekend.
Taking advantage of a vein of good form (and a few moments of good fortune!), he managed to win the B Class event with seven wins out of seven, earning a handicap reduction to 2.5. An outstanding performance!
