Colman Delivers the Goods as Sidmouth SW Golf Croquet Side Qualify for Regional Semi-Finals

Sidmouth Herald published 31 August 2014

The Sidmouth SW Golf Croquet team have now finished the last two matches in this year’s series, writes John Coombes.

Earlier in the month they played Cornwall (Rosevear) at St Austell. During the morning Sidmouth established a short lead, and managed to increase it in the afternoon rounds to win 11 games to 9.

A week later they were in action at Budleigh Salterton where they were well ahead by the end of the morning, leading eight games to four.

However, in the afternoon Budleigh rallied strongly, drawing level at the end of the first afternoon round by winning all four games. Parity was maintained in the last round, and the match was drawn at 10 games all.

With all three previous matches in the series won, Sidmouth SW qualify for the regional semi-finals later in the summer.

The most notable performance by a Sidmouth player in these two recent matches was by Edward Colman. At Cornwall he won his doubles game and three singles.

At Budleigh he drew in his doubles and won all three of his singles.

This was a fine showing for a relative newcomer to the team!
